How to Check for Correct Hours on John Deere 8000 Series Tractors

If you’re trying to verify the hours on a John Deere 8X00 series tractor (8100, 8200, 8300, 8400), here’s a step-by-step guide to help you. Follow these instructions carefully, and you’ll have the original hours in no time.

Step 1: Remove the Console Cover

First, take off the cover on the console as shown in the photo below. This will give you access to the diagnostic fuse.

Step 2: Insert the Fuse

Locate the spare 10A fuse and move it to the diagnostic spot, as shown in the next photo.

Once “CCU” appears on the screen, select it by pulling up on the turn signal lever (the “flash to pass” switch). The screen should now display “CCU” with “00” above it, similar to the photo.

Step 7: Record the Values

Write down the values for “43,” “44,” and “45.” These numbers will be crucial for calculating the total hours.

Step 8: Calculate the Total Hours

To determine the total hours stored in the CCU, use the values from the display:

  • 43 = XXX
  • 44 = XXX
  • 45 = XX.X

For example, in the photos:

  • 43 = 000
  • 44 = 124
  • 45 = 26.9

The total hours would be 00012426.9.

Step 9: Wrap It Up

Once you’ve recorded the hours, turn the key off, move the diagnostic fuse back to the spare slot, and close the console cover.

And there you have it! This straightforward process ensures you’re getting the correct hours stored in the CCU of your John Deere 8000 series tractor. The only way that the above hours are not factory is if the CCU was replaced and they were programmed incorrectly.
